Tree planting to commemorate the solution of the "Shimoji paradox" regarding the overtopping flow coefficient
The research on the wave-overtopping flow coefficient that we are tackling with is the research that former Ryukyu University professor Tsugio Kono (He died at the age of 65) started when he was an assistant at Tokyo Institute of Technology. The concept of "weir formula (discharge coefficient)", which has been dealt with in river engineering field, is applied to the predection of the wave-overtopping flow rate....
Prof. Eizo Nakaza's presentation about “Tsunami Stones” was published in newspaper Miyako Shinpo.
Tsunami stones scattered along the coast in Miyako Jima island are one of the most beautiful scenery in the world. At the initiative of Prof. Nakaza, efforts to register this tsunami stone group as a World Heritage site have started. To commemorate the start of the initiative, Prof. Nakaza made a presentation at the Miyako Jima Future Creation Community Center on July 28, stating that "the tsunami stones in Miyako Jima island were carried only by the Great “Meiwa” tsunami that occurred in 1771".
